The FCC is in the process of completing its Notice of Proposed Rule Making on MLTS 9-1-1. According to the Draft Rules published, every MLTS platform will have to be capable of providing a dispatchable location to the 9-1-1 call center or PSAP. Every service provider will have to be capable of providing a dispatchable location to the 9-1-1 call center or PSAP. Every end-user will be responsible for providing the dispatchable location of the device or endpoint when 9-1-1 is dialed. This rule applies to all platforms, regardless of technology. For example, an on-premise PBX will have the same requirements as a hosted or cloud-based solution. There are other requirements in the draft rules. I intend to provide an update on the requirements, including specifics and timelines. Once the audience understands the requirements, we can discuss the technologies available to meet the requirements.
